Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Knife-Edge ( L3 )

Just a step cried the sad man
Take a look down at the madman
Theatre kings on silver wings
Fly beyond reason
From the flight of the seagull
Come the spread claws of the eagle
Only fear breaks the silence
As we all kneel pray for guidance

Tread the road cross the abyss
Take a look down at the madness
On the streets of the city
Only spectres still have pity
Patient queues for the gallows
Sing the praises of the hallowed
Our machines feed the furnace
If they take us they will burn us

Will you still know who you are
When you come to who you are

When the flames have their season
Will you hold to your reason
Loaded down with your talents
Can you still keep your balance
Can you live on a knife-edge

Emerson, Lake & Palmer - The Barbarian ( S1 )

"The Barbarian" is the opening track on the eponymous debut album of British progressive rock band Emerson, Lake & Palmer, released in 1970.

Description

The song is instrumental, and it is the shortest song on the album (4:27). Although the composition of "The Barbarian" was attributed to the three band members, it is an arrangement for rock band of Béla Bartók’s 1911 piano piece Allegro barbaro. Although the original piece is for piano only, the band arranged the song for organ, piano, bass, and drums. The music of the song is aggressive with a hard rock influence. Greg Lake used a fuzz box to give his bass a fuller, guitar-like sound. The band members didn't give credit to Bartók, thinking that the label would arrange the matter. Bartók's family sued ELP for copyright infringement, but eventually, the band gave the credit to Bartók too. The song was never included in a compilation album of the band until the album The Essential Emerson, Lake & Palmer.

Personnel

  • Keith Emerson - Hammond organ, piano
  • Greg Lake - bass guitar
  • Carl Palmer - drums, percussion

Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Jeremy Bender ( L2 )

Jeremy bender was a man of leisure,
Took his pleasure in the evening sun
Laid him down in a bed of roses,
Finally decided to become a nun.

Talk with the sister, spoke in a whisper,
Threatened to fist her if she didn't come clean
Jumped on the mother just like a brother
Asked one another if the other is a queen.

Diggin' the sister she was a mister
Shouldn't have kissed her, but he couldn't say no
Wanted to leave her couldn't believe her,
So he picked up his suit-case and decided to go

Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Take a Pebble ( L1 )

Just take a pebble and cast it to the sea,
Then watch the ripples that unfold into me
My face spills so gently into your eyes
Disturbing the waters of our lives

Shreds of our memories are lying on your grass
Wounded words of laughter are graveyards of the past
Photographs are grey and torn, scattered in your fields
Letters of your memories are not real

Wear sadness on your shoulders like a worn-out overcoat
In pockets creased and tattered hang the rags of your hopes
The daybreak is your midnight, the colours have all died
Disturbing the waters of our lives,
Of our lives, of our lives, lives, lives, lives
Of our lives
